A Guide to Wood Science

The Biological research of wood and it’s renewable material is what is referred to as wood science. Wood technology is now the way the tools are utilized in the processes of wood preservation. Other products are put alongside wood for easy testing and study. The comparison made against other products will include the features of the material against those of wood, the value and the ease it can be worked on. Wood has many advantages and this technology takes the advantages and utilizes them. Some of these advantages include wood being a versatile material that can be used in a wide range of products. Wood is renewable, and this makes it more precious. All the parts of wood can be put into use, and this makes it a better fit than other materials which most of their byproducts are a waste.

The good appearance of your timber made structure cannot be guaranteed if protection of the timber is not done. This protection is from moisture and insects which are the biggest threat to wood. The rotting and decay of the timber products are caused by the moisture and the insects. Many methods are available in the treatment of wood one of the most common being the ACQ – alkaline copper Quaternary. The protection of from this chemical is based on copper. There are a few disadvantages of this method as a mode of wood preservation. It has been seen corroding most metals for example aluminum in less than six months of its application. The saturation level of any treatment will depend on where the wood is going to be used and the species of the wood. The concentration level of the chemical will be different for two pieces of wood where one is used above ground and the other close to a water body.

The use of copper metal is another method of wood treatment that is fast being accepted. This method is being accepted fast because is friendly to wooden fasteners. This process is what in other words called the micronized copper wood preservative. The copper metal is applied to the wood as small microscopic particles injected into the wood at high pressure. In other copper-based preservation methods copper is dissolved in chemicals while in this method copper is driven into the wood as a metal. This process is highly effective and the wood properties and heightened. The wood products protected using this method last longer.

The micronized copper preservative has proven to be highly effective in protecting the wood against fungal decay and termites. Unlike other methods of treatment this method is not corrosive. When you use this method to treat wood, then you will not need to worry for at least ten years.
