Also, if you really hit the top of your game artists, actors, renowned people are going to contact you and maybe you might be involve in some flings.

CONS

  1. Models don’t earn a stable income. The paychecks only come in when you do projects. Thus, if you don’t book any shows or projects there won’t be income for you. But if you do, is sufficient enough to sustain you a month or more.
  2. Models do not receive healthcare benefits and holiday leaves either. Unlike office jobs whenever you need to go for a holiday, you just apply leave and go or some companies do pay for their employees’ medical expenses.
  3. Dubious modeling agencies. There are many agencies who are out there to suck up every single dollar from gullible aspiring models’ pocket. They won’t give you your portfolio nor market you to potential clients. They will leave you there with nothing but false hopes of achieving your dreams.
  4. Black market. Some con artist will con you into doing ‘modeling’. Beware of those as they might be sex traffickers trying to get you into the realm of black market.
  5. Witness drug usage backstage or in the hotel rooms by models, so they could remain skinny or stay awake during shoots
  6. Witness models who is dealing with eating disorders all in the name of beauty. Also, you will find many models who deal with emotional distress and insecurities in the industry. In your mind you’d probably think ‘how can a model deal with insecurities?’, you’d will be surprise.

1) Write Right. Few people can write well, even fewer can write with particular impact. I read a lot of blogs – I operate a blog platform. I read many papers from my senior college students – I’m a university professor. Trust me, few people write well, much less powerfully.

Potent writing is both art and science. It is developed with study and practice. It is a process that never ends, but never stops paying dividends. What you say today will likely disappear in a moment, but what you write has the potential to impact for generations.

A blog is your stage. It is the classroom for your development. Commit to it.

2) Drill Deep, Not Wide. If we have ever been tempted to write for public consumption, we typically have a lot of ideas in our head. Probably too many ideas. In your area of work, there are many things that may catch your eye as being interesting, wrong, or in need of examination. That doesn’t make them candidates for your writing.

The operational word here is FOCUS. Think hub and spoke. Spend your time building the hub and only after you have done this for a time, do you extend your hub knowledge into subdomains. Drill, drill, and drill some more into your focal domain – the space you will master.

When you think you’ve narrowed it down enough, slice it again – and then again.

And write about it as one intimate with it. Obi Wan-it. It should be evident that the Force is with you. You own it.

3) Expert Often. You’re not an expert occasionally, you’re one often. Once you establish yourself on the stage as one who knows, you must present yourself, your work, regularly.

To deliver good stuff regularly, you have to be in the thick of the ideas that define your domain. You’re active in that space where the ocean wave coming in meets the wave receding from the beach. You become a voice in that confluence of ideas pushing in and those pushing back.

While these forces are engaging each other, you’re the voice connecting to the outside – be it the layperson or the fellow practitioner. Your clear voice is ever-present – articulating the complex and making clear the obfuscated or obscure.

Yes, your blog is your theater – your stage. It is a reputation maker, or breaker. Your reputation will rise or fall based on your performances over time.

If you want to take control of your career, then a blog is critical to demonstrating your mastery of your universe.

In this day and age, it is easy to imagine that you are invisible as you shoot off your resume into the unknown. However, your resume is part of your brand and you need to be careful of how you are branding yourself before you potentially hurt your career. I have compiled a list of top ways to appropriately sell your brand.

To begin, the first introduction that future employers have of you is your resume. Be consistent – if your resume falls into the same hands more than once, your resume will stand out as the hiring manager has viewed your resume before. Hiring managers go through hundreds of resumes a day so you need to stand out to make an impression. Other things to remember when creating your resume include the following:

· The most important thing to remember is clarity. Hiring managers need to tell at a glance if you have the skills that they are looking for. Have a short section at the top that hits your highlights and skills. You will want to bullet each sentence, wordy paragraphs are skimmed and do not register your skills with the hiring manager.

· Keep the same font throughout your resume. The easiest that I have found to read is Arial 11, with my name and contact information centered at the top of the first page at Arial 14 bold.

· Be very clear in your employment experience of company name, title, and dates of employment. Employers are looking for longevity and not short tenures so you want the hiring manager to clearly see this section. If you are a contractor, listing your clients is a must as this will show you were actually an employed contractor. If left to the imagination, hiring managers will fear the worst, in every case.

Secondly, remember that you are a brand. You need to decide what you are selling and stand behind that. This is for who you are on social media, on your resume, on job boards, blogs, etc. If you change your product from platform to platform, then you are not building a strong brand. Hiring managers review these different platforms as part of the interview process. If you are a chameleon, you will forget what you are selling, which will hurt your brand and your chances at that employment.

Another element that you need to consider is to make sure you are competitive in the salary that you are advertising. This is important whether too high or too low; too low and you are underselling your value, too high and you are overlooked. You need to know the price of your product. Glassdoor.com is a great place to investigate what your salary should be – you will just plug-in your title and location to get the average salaries for your respective field.

Lastly, if you do not have a LinkedIn profile, you must do this right away. This site is advertising your professional merits at no charge. Take care to build an error free, (especially grammar errors!), fully complete profile. Take care to ensure you are using the correct title for the industry you are looking to advance your career in. For example, if you are a CRA, (Clinical Research Associate), make sure this title is clear in your profile. If a hiring manager is confused by what you are offering, they may not use one of the free emails that LinkedIn offers. You shouldn’t make your personal email address visible here but if you wanted to create a separate email account for hiring managers to reach you, then now is a great time so you can make that email address visible on LinkedIn, so it is easy to contact you. LinkedIn is a great place to connect with future employers.

The job market is competitive and doing something that you have a natural aptitude for will help put every chance of success on your side.

3. Is it something that is needed?

This criterion is possibly the most important in terms of getting paid for what you do. Of course there is nothing wrong with pursuing work that gives you pleasure and that you are good at for its own sake. However, if you are looking to be relatively well paid for your time then you will need to find something that is also needed by others. Once you have a list of things that you are both interested in doing and are good at, try to determine which of these things are most in demand. The more your work is needed the more likely someone will pay you well for it.

As a final note, don’t get discouraged if a job that fits the above three criteria doesn’t immediately fall into your lap. It takes time and some effort to come up with a viable idea for something that will be a rewarding use of your time. Remember that everybody is good at something and that there is bound to be someone who can benefit from your skills even if it may not be obvious at first. The more the work is needed, the less likely someone else is already willing or able to do it. Try to find something you can do, that you like to do, and that many others cannot or don’t want to do.
